San Diego Vacation, Day 1 - The Flower Fields in Carlsbad

Hi all! We just got home last night from our vacation to beautiful southern California!! We had a wonderful time - the kids had tons of fun, and actually SLEPT pretty decently - first time that's ever happened on vacation! I took a ton of photos during our one week trip - so I decided to do a separate blog post for each day, trying to pick just my favorite photos from each day (which will be tough!!). So here is Day 1...

We flew out bright and early last Saturday (May 2) to San Diego airport. From there we rented a car and headed a bit outside of the city to Carlsbad, a little ocean community about 30 miles north of San Diego. We drove along the coast and enjoyed beautiful ocean views most of the way up as the kids napped in their carseats! As we exited the highway and headed to our hotel, we saw the most amazing fields of flowers along the road - I *knew* we had to go there!! So that's how we spent our first afternoon - at The Flower Fields in Carlsbad! The fields are mostly made up of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus. Their website says that peak bloom has passed and only 30% of the Fields are still in great color - WOW - I can't even imagine how gorgeous this place must look during the peak!!

This is just a small bit of the fields - it was hard to capture just how huge and amazing it was in one photo!Courtney enjoyed the ranunculus blooms.Me and all the flower goodness!Playing around with "flower mode" on the camera... :-)The Fields also included a Sweet Pea maze, rose garden, poinsettia display, english garden and Santa's Playground, where the kids had fun playing on the playscape, miniature house and mushrooms.Next post - the San Diego Wild Animal Park and fun at the beach! Yay! :-)

OMG! Those flowers are amazing! I can't imagine what they would have looked like at peak either! Maybe this will bring me to California some day! I love the mushrooms, and that you actually got Courtney to look through one of the windows of the house!

AH!!! I gotta go there someday! So pretty -- your smiling face makes it even prettier! And the kids really are little!
